Build 0.2 Release Date


Build 0.2 of Sex Drive is coming out this Saturday, April 26th.

It is with great pleasure that we make this announcement. A lot of work went into this update — some of which we will show today — but before we get to it, both Eddio and I want to apologize for the long wait between the first and the current build. In part the delay was caused by regrettable scheduling difficulties that were beyond our control, but at the very least those factors did not come without some benefits to them.

The extra time allowed us to consider and incorporate invaluable feedback into our plan for the game, and in doing so we've been able to pack what will be hopefully better content on top of some extra goodies that go beyond our original promise for the game.

With that out of the way, I'd like to show you bits and pieces of what we've prepared.

STORY #3: EUROTRIP

So far the two stories that are in the game established a formula of sorts; we follow Rod as he goes on to have a sexy experience on the road, though here and there you may find details that hint at a richer past. Broadly speaking, this is how the Sex Drive stories will operate, but EUROTRIP breaks that norm. Its focus is on introducing "the plot" and the cast of characters, which demanded a different approach.


For starters, EUROTRIP is currently the longest story in the game, and most likely will retain that honor all the way to the end. It is, in fact, about four times the size of a "normal" Sex Drive story, and divided into four "batches" to make that more manageable. The extra length was necessary to accomplish its goal. Since it focuses on plot and characterization there weren't many chances to write kink variations, but I don't think you'll miss them too much when you see how everything unfolds.

In a sense, EUROTRIP is also the most "game-like" moment so far, as it introduces questions and plotlines that will be explored throughout the rest of the visual novel, but which can, to an extent, be analysed and speculated about. It's a bit of a detective-like experience, if you choose to take it like that.

Regarding the cast, you already know Rod...


But we're now meeting his husband, Pat...


And their two assistants, Arthur and Ernest.



Their shared history and dynamics make the core of Sex Drive's plot, which will be developed inside and around the upcoming stories. And by "around" I mean...

"VIGNETTES"

Going forward, we'll also be employing an additional format in the game. In-between the main erotic stories you'll find short segments that perform a series of functions. Sometimes they bridge stories, sometimes they show the post-sex pillow talk, and sometimes they dive into the cast's past. They're flexible and, for the most part, are on the shorter and more abstract side.


A lot of thought went into how we wanted them to be presented. In contrast to the main chapters, which are shown diegetically as stories Rod has lying around while he's on the road, the vignettes take on a more atmospheric format...



They're shown in roadside diners, with more introspective music to go along with it.

Vignettes give us the means to develop the plot and characters in a focused and oftentimes literary way without compromising the pacing we want in the erotic stories. Or, to put it in other words, whether we want to do raunchy porn or a character exploration, we can go balls to the wall.

Build 0.2 includes two vignettes — one before EUROTRIP, and one after. You can expect that to be the pattern going forward; one vignette between each main story.

At first they will appear as stickers placed on top of the main stories in the Chapter Select screen...


...and, afterwards, they'll be accessible via the VIGNETTES tab.


But wait... What's that about "memories"?

"MEMORIES"

"MEMORIES" are the third format we're adding to Sex Drive. While I was focusing on EUROTRIP and the vignettes, Eddio came up with a few concepts for very short and focused horny stories that we just couldn't fit into the ten main ones we had already planned. We couldn't fit them in as vignettes either, as those are very plot-critical and don't have much room for unplanned sex scenes. They also provided an additional challenge as they could focus on a single kink to such an extent it would not work alongside the kink selection feature.

We brainstormed a bit and decided on a third format, "Memories". They're intended as very focused little stories, with a very clear erotic object, and with few to no variations.

As always, Eddio went ahead and designed a diegetic way to present it...



For now, we have one Memory in the game, which focuses on the watersports kink.

You can also consider them a gesture of gratitude for everyone who supported the game from the start, which convinced us that this project is most definitely viable and that we can really go the extra mile to make it shine.

If you're concerned about this being a distraction from producing the game, rest assured. When working on Sex Drive my priority is finishing the main content — the ten chapters and their vignettes. The memory we're including in this build was written by Eddio during his downtime, and chances are he'll be helming most of them until I'm done with my part. When I do become available to write them, I want to use the opportunity to deliver content for kinks I've not been able to include in the stories as frequently as I hoped.

For now, the plan is for the memories to be secrets that must be unlocked. We're still experimenting with how this will be done but, for now, you'll be able to unlock the first memory during the EUROTRIP story. It's not very difficult, I'll just say that.

MUSIC

This build's original songs deserve a section of their own. Eymon truly went above and beyond, delivering a series of bangers that really elevate the experience. In fact, we're trying out a few things with his songs that we've seldom been able to before.

So far we've switched between two versions of each song — one clear, and one with a radio filter on top of it. But with this build we'll be handling different versions of each song, including one with vocals that I consider the highlight of the entire build.

I'll probably prepare a version of it for YouTube, though chances are it'll have to wait until after we publish the new version of Sex Drive. I am juggling Minotaur Hotel work — we're hard at work to get the next build of it ASAP.

GENERAL NOTES

As we said previously, Sex Drive will be a paid game, priced at 9.99USD upon completion. The demo was made available for free, but we opened up for donations.

Starting with Build 0.2, things will shift into second gear. Going forward we'll still have a free demo, which will be updated to contain a little more of the newest release, but all the currently available content will only be available to people who donated to the game, subscribed to Eddio's Patreon or purchased it. Let me break this down as clearly as I can:

  • If you donated any amount to Sex Drive via Itch.io, you are guaranteed to have access to the game. No further action is required. Just sit back and relax.
  • If you're subscribed to Eddio's Patreon at an appropriate tier, you'll get access to the game via the associated Discord tier (on the Killigan's Treasure server, Redroot). More information to come over on the server later today.

Sex Drive will remain on Donation mode until the 26th, after which we'll switch it to Paid mode. We're planning on kicking it off with a 60% sale. After a week or so we'll bring that discount down, but the game will remain on sale until it is complete, though we will reduce the percentage with each new version.
